Before you drive

  • Get your vehicle booked in for a free winter checkover at our garage.
  • Get the latest weather reports / forecast.
  • Consider whether your journey is necessary.
  • Take a charged mobile phone, a warm coat and sturdy shoes.
  • Carry reflective or fluorescent clothing in case of an emergency.
  • Take a map in case your intended route is closed or blocked.
  • Allow extra time.

 

Preparing your car

  • Are your lights clean and working?
  • Are your windows and mirrors clear?
  • Use a glass cleaner on the inside of the windscreen.
  • Are your tyres the correct pressure and do they have enough tread?
  • Have you check the spare tyre?

 

While you are driving

  • Keep a good distance from the vehicle in front.
  • Use dipped headlights and switch off fog lights when visibility improves.
  • Avoid harsh braking / accelerating.
  • Be aware of others and anticipate what could happen.
  • Signal your manoeuvres well in advance.
