Before you drive
- Get your vehicle booked in for a free winter checkover at our garage.
- Get the latest weather reports / forecast.
- Consider whether your journey is necessary.
- Take a charged mobile phone, a warm coat and sturdy shoes.
- Carry reflective or fluorescent clothing in case of an emergency.
- Take a map in case your intended route is closed or blocked.
- Allow extra time.
Preparing your car
- Are your lights clean and working?
- Are your windows and mirrors clear?
- Use a glass cleaner on the inside of the windscreen.
- Are your tyres the correct pressure and do they have enough tread?
- Have you check the spare tyre?
While you are driving
- Keep a good distance from the vehicle in front.
- Use dipped headlights and switch off fog lights when visibility improves.
- Avoid harsh braking / accelerating.
- Be aware of others and anticipate what could happen.
- Signal your manoeuvres well in advance.
